Oh my goodness where do I even begin with this book. This was the first book I have read by Bob Goff, and after reading it I can’t wait to get his others. This book is about Bob’s life and what it means to love the way Jesus does. He talks about loving everyone even the difficult ones with no exceptions. This really struck me because how often do we walk away from difficult people or cut them out of our lives? He challenges us to walk towards those people, find out their story and love them no matter what. He gives many examples in the book of how he does this and I was completely blown away. This book truly opened my eyes and deepened my relationship with Jesus. If you read one book this month I can’t urge you enough to read this one. He also just came out with a kids version called Love Does for Kids and I can’t wait to read it with my boys.
One of my favorite quotes in the whole book is, “If you want to become love, stop just agreeing with Jesus. Go call someone right now. Lift them up in ways they can’t life themselves. Send them a text message and say you’re sorry. I know they don’t deserve it. You didn’t either. Don’t put a toe in the water with you love; grab your knees and do a cannonball. Move from the bleachers to the field and you won’t ever be the same.” Bob Goff
The Last Mrs. Parrish is about A girl named Amber who is tired of being a no one. She want’s the wealth and life that the Parrish’s have. There is only one problem, Mr. Parrish is married. That certently doesn’t stop Amber and the mastermind plan she has laid out to become the new Mrs. Parrish. This book had me hooked right away and I loved the way it was written. The first half of the book was from Amber’s perspective and then the second half of the book is from Mrs. Parrish’s perspective. The ending was a little predictable, but there were lots of twists and turns that did keep me guessing a few times.
Oh my goodness I absolutely loved this book! This book is about two childhood friends who have a hard upbringing and fall in love while dreaming of a better life. When they are teenagers they get torn apart and their lives drift in different directions. Things get interesting when one of the main characters starts reading a book one day and it’s about her childhood. This book had me hooked right away and I found myself rooting for the main characters. There are many twists and turns in the book that had me guessing what would happen next. I highly, highly recommend this book!!
The last book I read this month was The Husband Hour and I really enjoyed it. The book is about a young widow who has retreated to her families beach house after her husband passes away. While living at the beach house she pushes everyone who loves her out of her life and falls into the rhythm of being isolated and alone. Then one summer her small world is turned upside down when her mom, dad, sister and nephew come to stay with her. To top it all off a film maker is in town and is making a documentary about her late husband. Secrets are revealed and hearts begin to heal.
I thought the story was well written, the characters were well developed and the book moved along nicely. I wouldn’t say that this book is chic lit, it has a little more meat to it, but it also wasn’t very deep or thought provoking. Just an easy book that would be perfect for the beach or vacation. I ‘m excited to read more books by the same author!
I hope you enjoyed this months book review! I would love for you to share what you read this month or what is on your list for next month. I’m always looking for more book recommendations.
Here is my January book review if you are looking for even more book ideas!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Erin
